Nunavut Culture

Inuit of Nunavut have done a great job of preserving their culture through the centuries. Inuktitut is the dominant language of Nunavut and territory has its own Inuit Broadcasting Corporation. Traditional arts such as carving soapstone, throat singing and dancing to the beat of the old drums are all very much alive in Nunavut.
However, the Inuit of Nunavut have also diversified in modern media.
Violins, accordions and other European instruments are mixed in musical performances. The Nunavut Animation Lab offers animation workshops in three communities in Nunavut, Igloolik during Artcirq circus troupe has performed at the Olympic Winter Games in 2010 and countless other places around the world. Throat singer Tanya Tagaq has collaborated with artists such as Björk and the Kronos Quartet.
